Those records must be interpreted carefully. A device can receive notifications, sync data, update apps, connect to a vehicle, or log activity without proving exactly what a person saw, intended, or physically did at that moment.

Timeline construction

Before, during, and after should be separated.

A timeline that merges all activity together can obscure the actual question. The review should distinguish setup activity, incident window records, and later communications or exports.

Interpretive limits

Forensic records can show that a device logged an event, connected to a system, received a notification, opened an app, or stored a location artifact. The harder question is what that means in the context of the incident.

Whether a device connected to a vehicle or accessory
Whether a photo or video existed near the event
Whether location related records align with the chronology

Records may not establish alone

Who physically held the device
Whether a person read a notification
Whether an automated event reflects intentional use
Whether GPS level precision exists when only coarse data is available
Whether missing data means intentional deletion
